Introductory Remarks

After he graduated from college, Zachary went to live in Japan for three years. The first two years was in a small rural village in Kochi Prefecture of Shikoku. The village was called Umajimura (horse track village). We visited him there in May and June, 2002. I wrote up our trip in some detail. Unfortunately, I only have it in .pdf version. One day, I hope to have it in html. I'm not holding my breath for that day to come.

In order to read documents in .pdf format, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Virtually everyone has that these days, often in the form of a plug-in to their browser. So it is quite likely you can just click the link, the plug-in will load itself automatically, and you can read the pages. Alternatively, you might be asked whether you want to view the file or save it to view later on. If you don't have Acrobat, click this link to get your own free copy of Acrobat.

  1. There's a short summary of the 2002 Umaji trip which just says we went to places and did some stuff. (36 kB),
  2. There's a long summary of the 2002 Umaji visit that goes on endlessly and contains lots of digressions. (270 kB), and
  3. An Umaji visit pictorial summary of the 2002 Umaji visit which involves a few short words and something like 10 pictures. (983 kB).
